A Senior VFX Artist is responsible for supporting the art development efforts with beautiful and vivid Visual Effects, connected to characters or the world, and implementing them within a variety of engines used by our clients. VFX is a mix of art and science.

He works closely with developers to ensure that there are no technical problems attended to in the implementation of the VFX, or hindering the work of other team members.

Responsibilities

Support the development of VFX across multiple projects.

Propose, design, and implement pipeline improvement strategies for both individual projects and the studio as a whole, aiming to streamline VFX content creation. Document processes and tools to ensure knowledge is shared across the team.

Drive performance and optimization efforts for all VFX-related content, ensuring alignment with each project’s architecture and technical requirements.

Integrate third-party simulations from 3D software authoring tools as Houdini, Maya, and 3ds Max, into Realtime game engines as Unreal and Unity.

Create high-quality VFX solutions that enhance gameplay and visuals, using particle systems, post-process effects, and shaders in Realtime game engines. Ensure all effects align with the project’s artistic vision and performance goals.

Build and maintain materials and textures using Substance Designer and Painter, ensuring consistency with PBR workflows. Support the integration of VFX assets into the engine while maintaining visual fidelity and optimization.

Work closely with technical artists and developers to implement efficient VFX pipelines and troubleshoot performance issues across multiple platforms. Collaborate on building custom tools and automation processes for Unreal and Maya, improving productivity and asset integration.

Maintain strong performance standards by understanding draw calls, CPU/GPU usage, and optimization tools within Unreal. Evaluate and apply the most effective lighting models (pre-baked, dynamic, or hybrid) for each project need.

Actively contribute to the organization of project files and assets, following naming conventions, folder structures, and removal of unused content. Stay aligned with best practices for version control and documentation (SVN, Perforce, Git, Confluence).

Keep up to date with trends in real-time VFX, simulations, and 3D art technologies. Apply knowledge of cloth, lighting, and physics simulations to achieve immersive, high-quality effects.

Support the development of the VFX discipline by mentoring peers, sharing knowledge, and identifying learning resources or tools that could benefit the team. Help assess VFX candidates when needed and contribute to onboarding and technical training.

Be available to support production with hands-on artistic tasks when necessary. Communicate effectively with leads, producers, and developers, raising technical concerns early and offering well-structured solutions.

Maintain a proactive attitude and a collaborative mindset, working closely with the Art Manager, Producers, and other departments to deliver outstanding visuals that are optimized, performant, and aligned with the creative goals of each project.

Produce consistent documentation for the introduction and sharing of asset production pipelines for the team, acting as a guide in relation to technical specifications and good practices related to the content required for a wide range of products and platforms.
